About

My name is Stephen Tzou, and I am the founder of Crescent Edges. I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but raised in Taiwan. When I returned to the United States at 18 to study design, I experienced a profound identity crisis. The cultural differences between the East and the West both fascinated and intimidated me. Yet, one thing always connected me to my heritage: admiring the moon at night. Knowing that my family and I were looking at the same moon brought a sense of comfort and connection to my hometown. Over time, I realized that blending cultures could create something unique, beautiful, and innovative.

At 18, I was introduced to knives, and their simplicity and diverse beauty immediately captivated me. This ignited my passion for collecting knives. after I earned my bachelor's degree in Industrial Design from ArtCenter College of Design, I continually strive to create my own blade designs, using 3D printers to develop prototypes. Over a decade of collecting, I have found a vibrant community of exceptional knife makers, designers, and enthusiasts who share my passion. Folding knives, in particular, perfectly combine my love of elegant forms, intricate machinery, precise engineering, and creative expression.

In 2023, I embarked on my own knife design journey and founded Crescent Edges. My goal is to share unique, functional, and beautiful knife designs with the community, contributing to this art form that inspires and connects so many.
